A belly dance show with veils, swords and wings

Props turn a dance into a show. A veil for a soft opening, a sword for a moment of balance, wings for the big reveal. Here is what each one adds.

The props for a belly dance show in Singapore are silk veils, a sword, finger cymbals, wings and LED props. Each one changes the show: a veil makes it soft and flowing, a sword adds a moment of balance and tension, finger cymbals add live rhythm, and wings give you a big visual moment for photos. You choose them with the dancer before the day, together with the music and the costume colours.

Cost: props, costume changes and custom choreography can change the price. See belly dancer prices in Singapore.

Silk veils

The veil is the most familiar belly dance prop. The dancer often enters with it, letting the silk float around her, then lets it go and moves into the faster part of the show. Fans of silk veils, held on short sticks, make a wider and brighter effect on stage. A veil needs space to swirl, so keep tables and guests a little back from the floor.

The sword

In a sword routine, the dancer balances a sword on her head, her hip or her shoulder while she dances. It is a slower, controlled piece, and the room usually goes quiet to watch. It works well as the middle of a longer show.

Finger cymbals

Finger cymbals are small brass cymbals worn on the fingers. The dancer plays the rhythm herself as she moves, which adds live sound to a recorded track. They suit a traditional show and a small room, where guests can hear them clearly.

Wings and LED props

Wings are wide, pleated fans of fabric on thin sticks that the dancer opens above her head and out to the sides. In stage light they shimmer, and they make the strongest photo moment of the night. LED wings and LED props glow in the dark, and an LED belly dancer adds an illuminated costume, which suits a launch, a countdown or the finale of a company dinner.

Building a show

A simple shape for a longer show:

  1. Entrance with a veil, slow and elegant.
  2. Main piece with faster music, finger cymbals or a sword.
  3. Big moment with wings or LED props.
  4. Finish with guests invited up to learn a few moves, if you want it.

For a short surprise at a party, one prop is enough. See the belly dance styles to match props to a style, and the planning guide for space and lighting.

Questions people ask

Which props can a belly dancer use?

Silk veils, a sword, finger cymbals, wings, and LED wings or LED props for a lit show. The costumes themselves carry sequins, beads and coins.

How much space do wings need?

Open wings spread wider than the dancer's arms, so she needs clear space on both sides and nothing low overhead. Tell us the stage size and the ceiling height.

Do props cost extra?

Props, costume changes and custom choreography can change the price. Ask for them in your brief, so the quote includes them.

Can the dancer use candles?

Candles are not part of the shows offered here. For a glowing effect, ask for LED wings or LED props instead.
