To plan a belly dance show in Singapore, settle five things before you book: the space and the light, the music and the sound, the moment in your programme, how guests will take part, and the theme. Then send them with the date and the venue, and allow at least 2 to 4 weeks. Here is each step.
1. Space and lighting
The dancer needs a clear, flat floor, free of cables, chairs and bags. A small space is fine for a solo show at home, but veils, a sword and wings all need room to the sides, and a pair or a troupe needs more again. A stage helps guests at the back to see. Light matters as much as space: a dancer in a dark corner is lost. Ask the venue for a spotlight or at least bright, warm light on the floor. For an LED show, the opposite applies, so plan to dim the room.
2. Music and sound
Decide early who plays the music. Either the dancer brings her tracks and they play through your sound system, or your DJ plays them. Check there is a sound system, a cable or a connection that works, and someone to press play on cue. If you add Arabic drummers, they bring their own instruments, but a large room may still need microphones. The team coordinates the sound, the lighting and the stage space with your venue if you need it.
3. The moment in your programme
Guests watch most closely at a peak moment: the opening of the party, the break between formal segments, or the finale before the dance floor opens. Avoid the time when the food is served and the speeches. Give your emcee or planner the slot, and send us the running order so the dancer is ready at the right time.
4. Guest interaction
Decide whether guests should join in. The dancer can invite the guest of honour, the couple or a few colleagues up at the end and teach a few simple moves. It works at birthdays, hen parties and company nights. If your guests are formal or shy, ask for a show without it.
5. Theme and costume
Tell us the theme and the colours. The costumes, the style and the music can match an Arabian Nights party, a wedding palette or your brand. Choose the props too. See props and show ideas.
When to book
Book at least 2 to 4 weeks ahead. Year end, Chinese New Year and wedding season need more time. A request within 48 hours is sometimes possible, depending on who is free.
